Welcome to my Site!

Posted Dec 12, 2017 in Design

Welcome to my site! I am so glad it is finally ready for you to see! I have been coding and designing every nook and cranny, and at last it’s time to reveal it to the world. I often find as a designer, work I highly value goes unnoticed because most people have no grid for all that goes into the process of creating it. With that in mind, I’d like to pull back the curtain for you to catch a glimpse of what went into this website, so hopefully you’ll love it as much as I do.

For starters, I’ve spent more than 150 hours making this website. Yep, you read that right. One hundred and fifty. And if I’m honest, there’s still a bit more I have left to do. Some of you might be thinking, “Man, this site is cool, but is it really 150 hours worth of cool?” Good question. My goal was to make a website that was uniquely mine and would be able to withstand the self-targeted criticism that comes when designers look at their work for too long. I had to design in such a way as to beat my own perfectionism. I knew it would be worthwhile to spend as much time as it took to get things just right so I wouldn’t be redoing the whole thing in a few months. Time will tell, but I believe I succeeded.

“I had to design in such a way as to beat my own perfectionism.”

The idea of having a prebuilt website that any random person could mimic made my skin crawl, so I went the extra mile to show my character and represent my brand. These are my three big ticket items:

Getting Around

I don’t know about you, but I was tired of clicking those little three-lined menu buttons that live on many websites I visit on my phone. My poor thumbs were sore from stretching to the top of my phone just to see a new page. Don’t get me wrong. Those little buttons are useful, but I knew there had to be a better way. I didn’t reinvent the wheel but introduced a simple way to get around my website without anyone pulling their finger muscles.

Then on a computer, my menu is built into the side, so it never cramps what you’re reading or gets lost on you. I even hid a little surprise on the desktop version. Try clicking that GH to see what happens!

Buttery-Smooth Animations

There’s just something sweet when you hover over items on a website and they come to life. I love a good site where I just run my mouse over everything, excited to see how it all responds! I wanted mine to be the same. From the opener you see when you first load the site to the links, images, and everything in between, I wanted these clever animations to enchant and intrigue you.

Devil’s in the Details

When I see anything from a billboard to a business card to a logo, my nature as a designer is to search over every detail to see if anything in the design was missed, poorly executed or simply ignored altogether. This obsessive tendency to evaluate everything I see means that the little details of my site matter to me. A lot.

Everything has been meticulously designed and redesigned until it was right. From the way my pages load smoothly to the spacing between lines of text to making sure the smooth corners of all my pictures feels consistent across the site, I tried to overlook nothing. Most people would never notice one way or another, but for me, it’s all about getting things perfect. That means even seemingly insignificant things have been thought through and designed. For example, try typing in a web address on my site that doesn’t exist. Yes, even things that are likely never to be seen are still worth it to me!

Thanks for reading! I hope this helps you enjoy and appreciate this labor of love more than you did before. If you’re interested in a fancy site of your own, be sure to drop me a line. I’d love to chat about what that could look like!
